Driving Lesson | a poem

Sitting in my daughter’s jeep
Wishing I was home asleep
But it’s so very key to keep
Showing up for them to thrive

Watching as she pulls away
God, help me keep my fears at bay
Her life in her own hands today
Please soothe her frazzled nerves

The man says hold at ten and two
Her instructor is somebody new
Not the ones she’s grown used to
I hope she thinks to breathe

I hope they know inside their car
They carry my most precious star
I’ll set her free but don’t stray far
As she learns to spread her wings
