I’m Sorry, But… | poem

“I’m Sorry, But…

••

I’m sorry, but…

Nobody on this planet gives a single shit about you.

Until you really get this — you’re doomed.

You’ll spend your whole adult life

Steeping in why’s.

The only person who can save you… is you.

You’re holding everyone to a standard

That’s not just unrealistic — it does damage.

No one is required

To check in when you’re tired.

They love you, but they’ve got their own lives to manage.

To think otherwise? A little narcissistic.

Who have you checked on lately? Be realistic.

The world’s in chaos —

We’re just keeping our heads up.

Now is not the time to get egotistic.

The real magic starts when you let go

Of expectations — of them, of your ego.

Realize you’re holding the reins

Of your own chariot and domain.

Accept what is, and watch yourself grow.

Stop stacking your hopes on the shoulders of others —

Friends, parents, sisters, and brothers.

We’re all doing our best,

Running on minimal rest,

And wishing we were under warm covers.

So build your own fire, let it burn bright,

Stop waiting for someone to hand you a light.

You’re the spark, the match, the flame —

No one else is coming.

And that’s not tragedy — that’s your becoming.
